LGB Disney starter set 72350 The tremendous initial success of Disneyland meant that the Disneyland Railroad quickly needed more capacity. For that, Walt Disney found an original loco at the Godchaux Sugar Company in Louisiana: a retired 0-4-4 Forney, which had been built in 1895 at the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia. Disney had the loco converted to a 2-4-4 and put it in service on March 28, 1958. The loco was named after Walt Disney's close friend Fred Gurley, who was then the president of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. The mild climate of California and Florida enables the Disneyland Railroad to operate numerous open cars year-round. This special starter set features the “Fred Gurley” with two differently numbered “300 series” cars.
